An Effort to Bring Light in Sonargaon – Free Eye Check-ups, Rural People Receive Glasses at Low Cost

Vision is one of the most important ways for people to see the world. To ensure eye care, a social organization called VisionSpring, in collaboration with Sajida Foundation, organized a free eye check-up and low-cost eyeglasses distribution camp in Sonargaon, Narayanganj. This initiative has brought hope and light to many rural residents.
The program was held last Monday (April 27) at Ward No. 6 of Pirojpur Union. Many people who had been suffering from vision problems for a long time but could not afford treatment got the opportunity to receive care.
A total of 65 people aged above 35 received free eye examinations during the day-long program. Among them, 54 were diagnosed with presbyopia or near-vision problems, and 52 people were provided with necessary glasses at a cost of only 150 taka.
Many beneficiaries expressed their happiness after receiving glasses. Some said, “Now we can finally see clearly again,” while others said, “We never imagined getting such service at such a low cost.”
The program was supervised by VisionSpring’s Area Manager Shahinul Karim and also attended by local representatives including Manirul Islam and Abdul Matin. From Sajida Foundation, Project Manager Khadem Ali Benu, Field Operations Manager Animul Islam, and Zonal Manager Habibur Rahman were present.
Habibur Rahman stated that such initiatives are very important for rural communities. He said, “Eyesight is a valuable asset. Without timely treatment, people may suffer permanent vision loss. That’s why we are working to provide affordable eye care services to rural people.”
Under the foundation’s development program, similar activities are currently being conducted in 93 upazilas across 28 districts of the country, helping nearly 100,000 people improve their vision and bring new light into their lives.
This humanitarian initiative proves that collective efforts can create positive change in society and help restore the lost smiles of many people.
